what is an Au-Pair ?

Aupair is a unmarried girl ( or boy ) , aged 18 - 26 , who travels to a foreign country in order to learn the language and culture whilst living as part of a family . In return for full board and accommodation and pocket money they will help with the children and perform light domestic duties .

Aupair is not a nanny and should not be left in sole charge of babies or little children . The majority of aupairs are students and will have very modest child care knowledge , except for perhaps babysitting or looking after children of close relatives and friends .

what will your Au-Pair expect ?

Your aupair must have her individual room with enough cupboard and drawer space for her clothes and possessions, and facilities to study . She will take her meals in the company of the family .

If you go away for the weekend leaving your aupair in the house , please keep in mind to ensure that she has sufficient food or give her some money to get provisions as required .

aupair - Housework / childcare

An aupair can be estimated to work between 25 and 40 hours per week in reply for pocket money and full board and lodgings. Both the host family and the aupair should agree the amount of hours and the level of pocket money previous to agreeing the placement.
Childcare includes the control of children along with preparing the children's meals and tidying up after the children .
An aupair duties consist of childcare and light home duties : vacuum cleaning, washing, ironing preparing children's meals, cleaning bathrooms and kitchens.
For a successful placement the host family should discuss and agree previous to the placement the childcare preparations, the hours of work and home duties prior to starting the placement.

Hours of work / pocket money

Aupairs be able to work up to 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. On standard aupair can expect to be paid pocket money ranging from Euro 60 - 120 a week depending on location, work undertaken and the family concerned.
